There are a number of useful databases which are helpful to horticulturists. Here is an initial list which I have discovered:
- ITIS www.itis.usda.gov is a comprehensive list of Latin names which includes plants. The disadvantage is that it does not include names of cultivars. Online searches are quick and easy. The database is also freely downloadable via FTP; the downside to this is that the format is Informix. For my own purposes I was interested in a means of converting this to MySQL format.
