Horticultural businesses face special challenges with regard to the production, inventory management and sale of their product. This is partly because the product can be hard to standardize. It is not like other hard goods - for example a brand-name chocolate bar in one store will be exactly the same as the same bar in another store. Tomatoes, lilies, geraniums can vary a great deal from one garden centre to another. Additionally each product can be at a different stage of growth when purchased, and will continue to change. At any time a grower will have the same product in different containers at different stages of growth. Chocolate bars generally just get smaller and eventually disappear.

For this reason a lot of work has to go into the design of databases to cope with these issues.IT4GH has a number of products designed to help wholesale growers in the production and inventory management stages, and also in the sales and invoicing stages. Additionally there are retail products for use at Point of sale stations.

A good place to see how these products work is to look at our Computer Assisted Instruction pages located here. Following through the examples will show what IT4GH products attempt to capture.
